As an actor, Jahdyn Brown faces a lot of hate, so she didn’t want to encounter any kind of bullying at school.

That’s why Jahdyn – whose stage name is Jahdyn Faith — enrolled at Lighthouse Christian Academy, where she said “it makes me feel at home.” She chose Faith as a stage name since it’s her middle name.

Jahdyn is a freshman at LCA, whose independent study program (ISP) gives her the flexibility to pursue acting. Currently, she’s a recurring extra on the Fox ABC program Fresh Off The Boat (now on Season 2.) It’s a comedy about an Asian family moving into a white community. Fox ABC means it’s filmed in the actual Fox lot but shown on the ABC network.

Jahdyn was born a Christian and baptized as a baby, too. But she made the decision herself to give her life to Christ when she was nine years old.

She started acting seriously at age eight. She had followed her mother’s footsteps in modeling but decided she like acting better.

When she auditions for roles, she competes against 100 other girls. But the real hate hit her online with snide, anonymous comments uploaded on message boards: “How can you be an actress when you have acne?” “You’re not even on TV all the time.” “You’ll never make it.”

“Stuff like that IS hard to hear, but if this is something you want to do and connect with and makes you happy, then you have to do it,” she said. “Of course it hurts, but a lot of times, they’re insecure themselves. So, put people around you that are going to build you up and tell you can do it.”

Jahdyn has a very busy schedule that consists of scene studying, commercial classes, voice lessons, recording in the studio and script-writing classes on a weekly basis. This is why she needed a flexible schedule for her studies.

She usually comes to school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. She completes booklets that teach and test. She can ask the ISP teacher, Kathy Payton, when she doesn’t understand a concept. Mrs. Payton supervises the tests.

“Sometimes it’s really hard, especially with friends, because some friends don’t want to stick around because they don’t understand you can’t just hang around all the time,” she said. She’s glad her parents and family are very supportive.

Jahdyn just did a project called “Living Too.” It’s currently being shown in Film Festivals so it can be a big movie. “Living Too” is about a veteran and how they’re treated when they come home from war. She played a bully who says things like “You’re worthless” and “You don’t mean anything.”

She said this was a hard role to do since she’s not a mean person in real life. “Smaller words with a bigger meaning is harder to do than a full page length of lines,” Jahdyn said.

Not only does Jahdyn act, but she sings and writes her own music, too. With help from her vocal coach, Ken Stacy, who had toured with Elton John before, she goes to a studio on a weekly basis to record some songs.

Jahdyn is currently getting an extended player (EP). An EP is like a mini album, it’s how you introduce your music. Since she’s putting together songs, she plans to get that finished and produce more music to get out there.

Her goal for the future is to accomplish, whether it be a show or a movie, something like that on actual television. And when her name is known, she wants to be able to donate a lot of money and work with fundraisers, help the homeless and children’s hospitals.
