Dear Friend,

  Jesus is on the move!

From new teaching staff to facility improvements to scores of parent volunteers, the Lighthouse Christian Academy is gearing up for the upcoming school year and moving forward in the will and destiny of God.
Among other developments is the fact that we are now about one month away from our 4th Annual Fore the Students Golf Tournament, which will be held on Sept 11th at the Malibu Country Club.  Participants this year are competing for $1000 in golf gift certificates and a FULL page newspaper advertisement of their victory!

    Participation also includes:
  • gourmet box lunch from Le Grande Orange
  • clubhouse dinner
  • premier goodybag
  • chance to enter a raffle to win a classic 1988 Mercedes 560 SL convertible! (see flier below)
So bring a foursome or come by yourself and join a team.  The cost to play is only $125, the lowest it has ever been.
All proceeds will go toward the LCA Scholarship Fund to provide students in need the opportunity to attend the Lighthouse and grow in their faith in Christ.

Also featured in this edition is a testimony from alumnus Luke Czer.  As you will see, Luke is a testament to what is possible when a young man is willing to surrender his life and plans into the hand of God.  Anyone who knows Luke is very aware of the blessings both he and all those around him have enjoyed because of his faith.
We praise God for Luke and the many, many students like him.  They are what make the Lighthouse such a wonderful place in which to work, serve, and live.

Sincerely,

Jack Mefford

His story in the making

During my four years at the Lighthouse Christian Academy, I read many short stories and novels in my English classes, but never would I have guessed the outcome of my own story - a story still unfolding. I also learned world history and American history. However, HIS story
in my life is still being written. Math and science formulas were taught, but so were valuable formulas for life. It was an education of a most comprehensive sort, one which addressed the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical aspects of life.

My time at the Lighthouse Christian Academy proved to be instrumental in
my development in the four aforementioned areas. There was an unparalleled and uncompromising level of spiritual instruction soundly grounded in the scriptures. Opportunities for mental development and academics were many, and I would say that one of the most important skills I acquired in this area was learning how to learn - something that is transferable into countless fields of study and work. Emotionally, there was a strong support system, whether it be from fellow students, faculty, or staff, all benefitting from the small size of the school. And, of course, the school was fraught with physical activities, giving me the opportunity to participate in varsity football, basketball, baseball, and track.

LCA was a school I wanted to give back to and during my college years.  I tutored countless students and also taught as a substitute frequently. Shortly after I graduated UCLA in June of 2008, I landed a job as an admissions officer in the undergraduate admissions office at UCLA. During my time in the admissions office, I was able to use my new knowledge and collaborate with LCA staff and faculty on ways to improve LCA, especially in regards to direct
entry to four-year colleges and universities. This, in part, led to major accreditation efforts which have come to fruition and still are. More recently, it has led to goals of implementing honors and Advanced Placement curriculum.

I can honestly say that, years ago, I would have never thought that I'd be reading applications as an admissions officer for UCLA. While at UCLA as a student, I majored in economics and also took all the various pre-medical courses. My job in the admissions office did not seem congruent with what I had studied as a student, but I knew it was the right fit for a time. Recently, I stopped working for UCLA and am now embarking on yet another journey that years ago was not even a thought. I will be starting dental school this fall at Loma Linda  University. Whether it leads to general dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics, or something else is still yet to be determined.

As I am about to begin dental school at Loma Linda University, I am excited to see what is in store for the Lighthouse Christian Academy. I never would have guessed all the ways in which God has worked in my life and will continue to do so. In the same way, the story of LCA is being written and I kow God has great things in store. And who better to write the story than the Author of Life.
